About Me

Welcome to Mills-Bunje Therapy, my name is Kelsey Mills-Bunje, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California (#125153) and Nevada (#4385-R). I have a Masters in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis on Marriage Family Therapy from the University of San Francisco. I am Gottman Level II trained and use their work in couples therapy and in individual therapy to promote better communication within their life. I completed the Sex Therapy Certification Program at California Institute of Integral Studies and I am certified sex therapist through American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT).

I work with individuals, couples and families on how to connect with themselves and others. The past 8 years I have been a therapist for clients ages 5 to 85 years old with diverse issues. I provide an accepting environment to explore clients personal issues. I utilize home assignments for clients to practice during the week to gain better insight on how to grow. My style of therapy is more direct and I appreciate feedback to better serve my clients. We explore issues through different therapy models such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Brief (SFBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gottman Method and/or other modalities I find suitable for my clients. It is important to me to stay up to date on my trainings for my license and to benefit my clients. The reason for different approaches is due to everyone being so diverse, not one modality works for everyone and there are usually multiple reasons someone comes to therapy. I also have utilized these tools on myself, in my family, in my relationship with my partner and parenting foster children.

My professional philosophy with regards to sexual health is that everyone should be able to discuss their sexuality in a safe environment.  Too often people are embarrassed or afraid to discuss these things with anyone and feel isolated.  Sexuality is an essential part of the human condition.  There is no set norm. Human sexuality and sexual needs can vary widely,  encompassing  various orientations such as gender preferences to erotic preferences and lifestyles. My goal is to provide an accepting and non judgmental environment for clients to explore their sexual identity, learn how to communicate with their partners, and seek answers to questions they may be having.

I am currently only doing telehealth/virtual sessions and I have seen a great benefit for clients with this platform. This way I can show handout(s) easily for visual clients. This also allows couples/individuals to be in different locations (in CA or NV) with their busy schedules or even do a car session. Telehealth/virtual Therapy works for many clients and I understand if this isn’t right for you.

Please reach out if you think we would be a good fit and why telehealth/ virtual therapy is concerning to you.
